Save on your grain dryer energy cost with biomass.

Grain dryers require huge quantities of energy to produce the hot air that will remove humidity from the grain. Traditionally used propane burners use a fossil fuel and send all the combustion flue gases to the dryer, including all the moisture that was in the fuel.

Our hot air systems do not mix flue gases with the heated air. They can use several different solid biomass fuels. You will not only save on costs, but also use a renewable energy source.

Our hot air generators can use for example woodchips, pellets, or even agricultural residues (where allowed by local regulations). Even the dust coming out from the dryer can be mixed with woodchips, meaning that you may produce a part of your fuel just by running your dryer.

Existing dryers can be converted to biomass easily. Biomass can generate the full energy need for the dryer, or it can simply be used to preheat the air to decrease propane consumption.

Grain drying season is getting closer, but it is still possible to convert your dryer as we have some refurbished units in stock. Refurbished units are sold with a one-year warranty like new machines, but cost only a fraction of a new one.

Self-contained biomass-fired hot-air generator

15 years ago: birth of the current Säätötuli containerised biomass heating plant

A little bit of history… In 2007, Säätötuli has been successfully manufacturing containerised biomass heating plants already for 4 years with around 50 units manufactured so far. The use of maritime containers was eliminated early in this venture as their size restrictions made the maintenance of the heating systems difficult. With all that experience, it was time to redesign the containerised heating plant with updated features. The modern BioCont Junior was born.

Did you know? In some cases, a partial biomass conversion can be a better deal than a total conversion. For example, in kiln dryers the drying cycle requires full output from the boiler only during the pre-heating phase. The rest of the time, the boiler will work at partial output.

In the case study of a black spruce drying kiln, converting only a third of the output from fossil fuel to biomass would result in biomass providing 80% of the total heat energy need of the dryer for less than half of the investment for a total conversion.
